What this calculator answers

It turns a count into a date: the day a 90-day return window closes, the date six months after a lease starts, or the Friday that is ten business days from now. It also works backward, which is useful for finding when a period must have started to end on a given day.

How the days are counted

The start date is day zero and is not counted. One day after Monday is Tuesday, and 90 days after the start is the ninetieth calendar day that follows it. This matches how most people read “90 days from today”. If a rule says the first day counts, subtract one from the amount before calculating.

  1. Choose the start date; it begins as today on your device.
  2. Choose whether to count after or before it.
  3. Enter the amount and unit.
  4. Read the date and its day of the week in the result.

Calendar days versus business days

Business-day counting skips Saturdays and Sundays. Starting from Tuesday, September 29, 2026, ten business days land on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Holidays are not removed: the federal government observes eleven holidays a year, and banks, courts, schools and employers each publish their own lists. When a deadline says “business days”, compare the answer with the calendar that the rule actually uses.

Adding months and years

Months have different lengths, so adding months keeps the day of the month when it exists and otherwise moves to the last day of the shorter month. January 31 plus one month is February 28, or February 29 in a leap year. February 29 plus one year is February 28. The result shows a note whenever this adjustment happens.

Jan 31, 2027 + 1 month = Feb 28, 2027Feb 29, 2028 + 1 year = Feb 28, 2029

Why “today” can differ by time zone

The page reads today's date from your device, so a visitor in Hawaii and a visitor in New York can see different start dates late in the evening. The calculation itself works on whole calendar days and ignores clock times and daylight saving changes, which is why 24-hour and 23-hour days both count as one day.

Check the rule behind a deadline

Contracts, return policies, court rules and government forms sometimes say whether the first or last day counts, whether a deadline that falls on a weekend moves to the next business day, and which holidays are excluded. Treat this answer as the calendar arithmetic, then apply those specific rules before relying on the date.

Frequently asked questions

What date is 90 days from today?

Enter today's date (the page does this automatically), keep “After the start date” and 90 days. From Tuesday, September 29, 2026 the answer is Monday, December 28, 2026.

Does the start day count?

No. The start date is day zero, so one day after Monday is Tuesday. If your rule counts the first day, enter one day less.

How are business days counted?

Only Monday through Friday are counted, starting with the day after the start date. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped.

Are holidays excluded from business days?

No. Holiday calendars differ between the federal government, states, banks and employers, so check the list that applies to your deadline.

What is one month after January 31?

February 28, or February 29 in a leap year. When the target month is shorter, the calculator uses its last day and says so.

Can I count backward?

Yes. Choose “Before the start date” to find the date that comes a number of days, weeks, months or years earlier.

Why does another calculator give a different date?

The usual reasons are counting the start day, skipping holidays or treating a month as 30 days. This page counts whole calendar days and keeps the day of the month when adding months.

What to keep in mind

Business days skip Saturdays and Sundays only. Federal, state and bank holidays are not removed, so check any deadline that excludes holidays.
