How to count days between dates
Enter an earlier start date and a later end date. Boundary settings make the counting convention visible: excluding the start and including the end is the usual elapsed-date convention, while including both is useful for schedules that count every occupied date.
- Enter the start and end dates.
- Choose whether each boundary is included.
- Select calendar days or weekdays.
- Review the complete breakdown before sharing the result.
Inclusive and exclusive date counting
Two dates can produce different correct answers depending on the rule. January 1 through January 2 is one elapsed day, two dates when both endpoints count, and zero dates when both endpoints are excluded.
This calculator never hides that choice. The result link also preserves the selected boundary settings.
Calendar days versus weekdays
Calendar days include every date. Weekdays include Monday through Friday and remove Saturday and Sunday. The breakdown reports both counts even when one is selected as the large result.
calendar span = adjusted end date − adjusted start date + 1weekdays = full weeks × 5 + remaining Monday–Friday datesDays since and days remaining
For a days-since calculation, use the event as the start date and today as the end date. For days remaining, use today as the start and the deadline as the end. Excluding today counts complete date changes still to occur.
Dates are interpreted as calendar labels in UTC, preventing daylight-saving transitions from changing the answer by an hour and accidentally rounding to the wrong day.
Holidays and business-day limits
Weekday mode is a structural Monday-to-Friday count. It does not know the country, state, employer, market or school calendar, so it cannot subtract holidays or closures.
For contracts, court filings, benefits or regulated deadlines, follow the definition in the governing rule and verify which endpoints and holidays count.
What the Day Counter answers
Count calendar days, weekdays and weekends between two dates with explicit inclusion rules.
Use Day Counter when you know Start date, End date, Include start date, Include end date and Count and need the relationship expressed by the published equation.

Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Use exclude start and include end for the usual elapsed-day count.
Can I include both the start and end date?
Yes. Set both boundary controls to Include.
Does weekday mode remove holidays?
No. It removes only Saturdays and Sundays.
Why can the same dates have two answers?
Elapsed time and inclusive date counting use different endpoint rules; the controls make the chosen rule explicit.
Does daylight saving time affect the result?
No. The engine compares UTC calendar dates rather than local clock hours.
What question does this Day Counter answer?
Count calendar days, weekdays and weekends between two dates with explicit inclusion rules.
What to keep in mind
Weekday mode excludes Saturdays and Sundays but does not remove federal, state, local or company holidays.
